Annual Binyagan ng Bayan held in Dagupan
MORE than 600 children were baptized last week by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas at the Saint John the Evangelist Metropolitan Cathedral for the annual “Binyagan ng Bayan sa Dagupan” program of Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Villegas, assisted by priests in the archdiocese, reminded the parents that baptism is the “door to all sacraments”.
“Your children will become children of God, their sins will be cleansed and thereby, we all become brothers and sisters,” Villegas said.
Villegas thanked Fernandez, who stood as godmother to all those who were baptized, for her initiative in helping children from poor families receive the Catholic rite.
The children, as in previous years, received noche buena packs from the vice mayor as baptism gifts.
Fernandez, who was also representing her family’s CSI Group of Companies, said this is her yearly Christmas gift to children so they would grow up to be good Catholics.
Since 2007, more than 3,800 children have been baptized through the project.—Eva Visperas
