Drug testing for cops up
Lingayen — Drug testing for policemen in Pangasinan will continue.
But Chief Inspector Harris Fama, chief of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, said this will be done unannounced and on surprise schedules to prevent users among policemen making preemptive moves.
Fama admitted his office has names of policemen suspected to be hooked on drugs who are under watch. He still refused to release these names until they are validated.
He emphasized that while Police Provincial Director Alan Purisima will not tolerate any PNP men involved in illegal drugs, he wants to make sure that the rights of these policemen are not violated.
Fama pointed out that the tests are important to shore up trust and confidence in the police.
“Why would the civilians trust the police if they see with their own eyes a man in uniform who is involved in illegal drugs and is himself a user?” Fama asked.
Thus, he said, it is imperative for policemen to set a good example by submitting themselves to drug testing. — APE
