Alaminos all set for 100 Islands global homecoming
ALAMINOS CITY — There’s no place like home.
Anchored on this truism commonly embraced by people who go out of the country to seek greener pastures and return for a vacation, this city will hold a month-long grand reunion for Alaminians from places all over the world dubbed as “Visit to Hundred Islands 2007: Hundred Islands, Hundred Reasons”.
The event coincides with the Hundred Islands Annual Global Homecoming and fiesta celebration on March 11-19 in honor of its patron saint, St. Joseph.
The occasion is expected to muster huge crowds of Pangasinenses locally and abroad following the personal invitation extended by Mayor Hernani Braganza during his business trips abroad to promote Hundred Islands and open its doors to potential investors.
Local and foreign tourists, including Americans, Koreans and Europeans, have been steadily flocking to the Hundred islands since the city government took over its administration from the national government in October 2005.
Braganza said the occasion will be a perfect venue to foster partnership and camaraderie with fellow kababayans towards bringing Hundred Islands back to its glorious days as one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
He said the idea behind “Visit to Hundred Islands 2007”, is to invite Alaminians to return to their hometown, renew ties and friendship with families and friends and forge partnerships for the development of the city.
“It is high time that we revisit our roots, bond with our family and friends and help bring the city into its new phase – that of making Hundred Islands as one of the best tourist spots in the world,” said Braganza who tapped Palafox Associates to develop a 25-year master plan for the city.
Braganza envisions Alaminos City to be a “Green City in the 21st century”, a dream that he wants to realize before retiring from public office.
“Being a native son of Alaminos, it has been my dream to see the day when Alaminos will be equally as booming and progressive as the other cities in Asia or in the world.”
