THE often garrulous former Manila Congressman Mark Jimenez, speaking for more than one hour before political leaders and members of the media with his loose pants threatening to drop thrice, endorsed Undersecretary Antonio “Bebot” Villar for governor of Pangasinan, Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. for mayor of Dagupan City, and Rachel Arenas for representative of the third district of the province.

He not only endorsed the three in his speech before the general assembly of members of the “Biskeg na Pangasinan” political party on Thursday night but also warned their possible opponents and their backers that he would see to it that the three get all the support that they need from him in their coming battle.

Jimenez is a billionaire who claims he earned his fortune overseas, particular in Latin America where he established his businesses.

Jimenez openly endorsed Villar though he was aware of the presence of Vice Governor Oscar Lambino who had already declared his intention to run even under the opposition if given a “raw deal” by his own party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.

Jimenez, whose mother Adelaida Acosta, was born in Dagupan and a relative of the Fernandezes, was the guest of honor and speaker during the general assembly meeting of the ‘Biskeg na Pangasinan’, a new political party founded by Villar.

 Surprisingly, Villar was mum all the time about his possible candidacy for governor, until after Jimenez bared it all and vowed to throw all his support behind him, saying he is not cowed at all if Villar’s opponents will have plenty of resources.

“I will support Bebot Villar, Al Fernandez and Rachel Arenas and when I say I will support them, I will, with my boots on and that is no joke,” said Jimenez who surprised many as he seemed to be familiar with the situation in Pangasinan.

In his speech, he made no bones about the sorry political state in Pangasinan where those fighting the governorship are all candidates of Malacanang who should be instead working for a common agenda.

He said Immigration Commissioner Fernandez is his cousin and would see to it that any body who would face him would be mercilessly clobbered. On the other hand, he said, Rachel’s mother, socialite Baby Arenas, is his close friend.
