Regional PNP Task Forces formed for 3 provinces
CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO–Notwithstanding the planned appeal of Pangasinan officials for the removal of the province from the list of high risk areas for the May 2013 election, the Philippine National Police has proceeded with the formation of Regional Special Operations Task Groups (RSOTGs).
The RSOTGs, to be mobilized in each of the three provinces in Region 1 included in the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) list of high risk areas, were launched at the Police Regional Office I last December 6.
Aside from Pangasinan, the two other provinces are La Union and Ilocos Sur.
Chief Superintendent Franklin Bucayo, Region 1 head, aid the RSOTGs were created to probe and address partisan armed groups (PAGs), crime groups, recover loose firearms, arrest most wanted persons, and other threat groups to ensure a secure and fair elections 2013.
Named task group commander in Pangasinan is Chief Supt. James B. Bucayu, executive officer for directorate of the Integrated Police Operations for Northern Luzon.
Senior Supt. Manolito C. Labador, the Deputy Regional Director for Operations, will lead the group for Ilocos Sur, and Senior Supt Reynaldo G. Biay, Battalion Commander of the Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 (RPSB 1) for La Union.
Bucayu said RSOTG members will be deployed to their respective areas of assignment and are composed mostly of policemen from the regional level to preserve neutrality.
The launching of RSOTOG also included a situation update of the three tagged provinces, deployment of RSOTG and concept of operations with presentation of templates, update on unrenewed/ expired firearms, presentation of COMELEC Resolution No. 9561-A by Atty. Reddy Balarbar, assistant regional director, an open forum and the oath taking of the SOTG heads and members.
