Mangaldan to host stage 9 kick-off

FOR the first time in the history of Philippine professional multi-stage national cycling races, Mangaldan town will host the start of the 9th stage of the 2013 Ronda Pilipinas bikathon scheduled on January 24.

Mayor Herminio A. Romero told The PUNCH that he is elated by the opportunity saying, “we, the townspeople of Mangaldan, being a producer of national cycling celebrities like Jess Garcia, Jr., the Carino brothers Ruben and Samson, Cesar Catambay to name few, are glad and proud that finally a multi-stage national cycling event like the Ronda will start in this first class municipality.”

Race director Ricardo Rodriguez said the 96 participants that will start in Zamboanga City in Mindanao on January 12 – divided into 16 teams with two Pangasinan squads, west and the east – will start across the Mangaldan Municipal Hall and finish in Vigan City in Ilocos Sur via the Quirino highway, a flat trek with an approximate distance of 230 kilometers.

Rodriguez also announced that Romero will flag off the competitors at exactly 10:00 a.m.–JAG Jr.
