SAN MANUEL— Determined to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people of Barangay Narra, the Narra Multi-Purpose Cooperative (NMC) launched last year a technical-vocational scholarship program for the community’s out-of-school youth (OSY).

The cooperative spent some P50,000 for the fees and other miscellaneous expenses of the first 20 techvoc scholars who were trained at the Luciano Millan Memorial School of Arts and Trades-Technical Education Skills Development Authority (LMMSAT-TESDA) in Asingan.

NMC, considered as one of this town’s most progressive coops headed by Noe Peñera,, is the marketing agent of the Pag-rangayan Community Development Foundation, Inc. located at San Roque, San Manuel.

This year, NMC increased the number of its scholars by three.

Of the scholars, 12 are taking a three-month automotive course, two are in a three-month computer technology course, six are enrolled in a one-month practical electrician course while four are undergoing a two-week welding course.

The coop’s tech-voc scholarship program for the community OSYs is in line with the Positive Futures practical notion that technical-vocational education training (TVET), a non-formal education scheme that makes education available to a wide section of the Philippine population and provides the necessary skills for employability and competitiveness.
