Barangay chairmen asked to submit anti-drug plans

ALL barangay chairmen in Dagupan have been directed to submit their respective Anti-Drug Abuse Plan for 2007 to determine their willingness and sincerity to combat the illegal drug trade in their respective areas.

The directive came from Department of Interior and Local Government City Director Expedita Callanta who said   the move is in connection with the intensified campaign against illegal drugs in support of the plans and programs of the government.

She said her office has enough forms for every barangay, to be filled up by barangay secretaries, upon consultation with the Sangguniang Barangay headed by the chairman.

The Anti-Drug Abuse Plan must center on the following: Barangay anti-drug abuse campaign; surveillance and monitoring of drug pushers/ users; number of persons endorsed for rehabilitation; organization of the auxiliary team of the barangay anti-drug abuse council (BADAC); information dissemination on the bad effects of illegal drugs; anti-drug pirma kontra droga, mobilization of barangay tanods and other anti-crime groups; and sports development.

Callanta said the plan should indicate the location of projects, period of implementation, implementing groups or persons that include   possible actions taken, as well as all the accomplishments related to the campaign.

She said barangay officials are extending full support to every campaign of the Department of Interior and Local Government especially those that pertain to providing protection for the youth.
