VM Belen harassed by candidate

DAGUPAN Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, with her staff and runningmate Michael Fernandez, filed a complaint before the police station in Lucao after their convoy of vehicles were allegedly harassed Thursday evening by a vehicle reportedly driven by a candidate allied with their political opponents.

In their complaint, Fernandez and her group reported that at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a Toyota Revo with plate number AEN-500 followed and twice blocked their way enroute to Barangay Lucao from Bonuan Boquig.

After a follow-up investigation, Superintendent Romeo Caramat Jr., Dagupan police chief, told the vice mayor that based on reports they initially gathered, it was a certain Ric Ceralde who was reportedly driving the Revo that night and was “simply drunk”.

Listed as car owner was a certain Nancy Dy who identified Ceralde as the one who borrowed her vehicle.

The vice mayor said whoever was behind the wheel must be punished since the driver of the Revo clearly meant to harrass that could have led to a fatal road accident.

Ceralde is an independent candidate for councilor and reportedly aligned with the vice mayor’s political rivals.

HARASSMENT

The vice mayor and her staff were on board a Starex van driven by Roger Calimlim, government employee, followed by a convoy of two other vehicles, one of which was boarded by Michael Fernandez.

They were traversing Ayusip Road, Bonuan when they noticed a Toyota Revo parked along the shoulder road with its hazard lights on.

The Revo then followed them and cut the vice mayor’s vehicle thrice and sometimes did full stops blocking the way.

“Reportee (the vice mayor) and her staff together with her friends were worried about the said car that was following them and as they were traversing the way going to Lucao this city, said Toyota Revo again appeared from behind with still hazards switched on and then followed them straight to Lucao this city,” the police report said.

Calimlim claimed he again saw the Toyota Revo parked in front of BPI Lucao branch when they were about to report the incident to the police community precinct in Lucao.

Senior Superintendent Mariano Luis Verzosa, officer-in-charge provincial police director, vowed a no-nonsense probe on the incident.—Eva Visperas
