Ms. Earth bets rave about Pangasinan
LINGAYEN—Pangasinan is a winner.
This was the impression of the 27 Miss Earth International candidates who spent three days in the province where some of the pre-pageant night activities were held.
“Number 1 nga talaga ang Pangasinan,” said Ms. Philippines Stephany Stefanowitz in an interview.
One of the crowd favorites, Ms. Brazil Camila Brant exclaimed, “I love the people here!”
Another Latina, Ms. Puerto Rico Darli Pacheco, the Best in Resorts Wear winner echoed this saying, “I feel at home here, the people make me feel at home and I will never forget this.”
Ms. Colombia Cindy Kohn Cybulkiewicz affirmed, “It’s one of the prettiest and cleanest places I’ve been and I know I will always take a piece of Pangasinan home…and that whenever I’ll hear the words ‘Number One’, I will always think of Pangasinan.”
Several of the candidates expressed their enjoyment in sampling some of Pangasinan’s known produce, including mangoes and bangus (milkfish).
ENVIRONMENT CHAMPION
Impressed by the provincial government’s efforts in looking after the environment, Ms. Denmark, Ms. Switzerland, and Ms. Mongolia, among others, affirmed this saying the administration of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. is “doing a good job for the environment.”
“May disiplina ang mga Pangasinense,” added Stefanowitz, who bagged the bronze award in the long gown competition.
On their last day in the province on November 19, the ladies did some cleaning of the Lingayen coastal area after participating in the release of bangus fingerlings in Bugallon, and mangrove planting in Bolinao.
After the clean-up, the energetic Ms. Singapore Phoebe Tan said, “…the beach is so lovely, but we must clean it up always.”
Some candidates also played golf at the Capitol Resort golf range and joined the provincial employees led by Espino in the weekly flag raising ceremony at the Capitol Plaza.
Espino, for his part, said the province was more than glad to host as he stressed that Pangasinan is a “Hall of Famer in Coastal Resources Management” in awards given out by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Meanwhile, Paulo Relucio of Carousel Productions, the organizer of the Miss Earth, thanked that provincial government and the rest of the province for a job well done in hosting the event despite short notice.
The long gown and resorts wear competition were held in the province.
“I hope that we could stay longer next time,” Relucio added.
Speaking in behalf of all the candidates, Ms. South Africa Tamerin Jardine, who won the Best in Long Gown award, said in her testimony after the flag ceremony “…it (the experience in the province) will be something that we will remember for the rest of our lives and we’ll talk about to our children about the difference we have made for the past three days.”
