UPang bags PRISAA-UCAAP basketball crown
HOW sweet it is!
THE University of Pangasinan-PHINMA Flames beat the Lyceum-Northwestern University Dukes, 89-74, in their third game on October 21 in a best-of-three series to win the championship crown this year in the Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup of the PRISAA-UCAAP Collegiate Basketball Championship.
Flames’ veteran Allan Roquin, the Finals ‘Most Valuable Player’, provided key baskets and defensive stances to subdue the rally of the Dukes who only led in the early going, 3-2.
The Flames never looked back enroute to the rout after grabbing the lead at 5-3.
The feat, the first championship for Flames’ coach Jay Ronquillo, earned the team the honor of representing Pangasinan in the Area Eliminations (Ilocos, Pangasinan, Central Luzon and
Cordilleras) of the Phillippine Collegiate Champions League, in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on November 7-9.
The Dukes, in turn, will represent Metro Dagupan in the 22nd PRISAA Regional Collegiate Games, on October 27-30.–Philamer C. Celi
