SANENGSENG CHORAL COMPETITION

THE Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) and the Francisco Q. Duque Medical Foundation Special Science High School (FQDMFSSHS) were adjudged champions among public and private schools, respectively, in the Sanengseng Choral Competition held October 14 in Dagupan.

The group singing contest, launched during the Agew na Dagupan celebration last June, was conceptualized by Archbishop Socrates Villegas to inspire the Dagupan youth in taking pride in their heritage, particularly their language, through songs.

The participating groups each rendered a Pangasinan song of their choice, then a finale performance was staged with about 12,000 students jointly singing the Malinac Lay Labi, a traditional Pangasinan song arranged by Pangasinense Ma. Theresa Pitogo from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Music.

The finale proved to be a heartwarming performance as the students held lit candles.

The East Central Integrated School (ECIS) and St. Albert the Great School (SAGS) won as runners up in their respective categories.

The competition was sponsored by the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese in partnership with the city government led by Mayor Benjamin Lim and the City Schools Division under Superintendent Alma Ruby Torio. (CIO)
