Happy New Year!

By Al S. Mendoza

THE GOOD Book said:

“Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was 12 years old, they went up according to festival custom.

“After they had completed its days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.

“Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him.

“After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers.

“When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”

“And he said to them, ‘Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?’

“But they did not understand what he said to them.

“He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.

“And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.”

A mother’s love for her child is eternal. She treats her child as hers till the end of time.

The caring a mother gives her child is beyond time. Even when we are married, she doesn’t consider us married really. We remain her baby till her last breath.

Thus, when we build our home for our family and finally leave her, dear mother is laughing from the outside but is crying in the inside.

Thus, after the separation and we go visit her-which we must do very often, for Chrissakes-she’s the happiest on earth. The minute she sees us, she comes rushing to meet us- as if her child is home from school. Her heart is filled with joy and love.

When it’s parting time, she’ll be the saddest. Still, she’ll give us something, like our favorite food- a pabaon. And then she’ll retreat quietly to her room. There, she’ll pray for our safety- as she does all her waking hours.

You can just imagine the tons of torture Mary had to endure during the three days that she “lost” Jesus. Thus, we can’t blame her for rebuking her son.

But again, notice her reaction when her son, Jesus, answered her in a rather displeasing manner. She just remained silent.

Mothers-they understand us to the very end. Their patience is boundless.

I lost my mother 10 years ago. But I just lost her physically.

If your mother’s still with you treat her as a priceless treasure, love her as you would God. For, how can you love God if you can’t love your own mother?

There’s always a New Year but our mothers are always old and new-like Jesus, she is ageless, timeless.

Among others, be with your mother tonight, will you?

Happy New Year!
