14 Dasol fishermen still missing
A SEARCH and rescue operation is set to be launched by the Philippine Coast Guard for 14 fishermen from Dasol town who were among the 55 earlier reported as missing since September 27.
The Coast Guard will use its aircraft “Islander” in the search in looking for the fishermen who were on board the fishing boat FB Hans Patrick.
Director Melchito Castro of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional office expressed hope that the “Islander”, which will not limit its search in the Scarborough Shoal, will be able to find the 14.
The missing have been identified by the police as Francisco De Gano, Albert De Gamo, Jundel De Gamo, Bernardine Rada, Rodelo Velonza. Jonathan Asanes, Larry Villaflor, Fermin Dayoy, Ariel Cabarlo, Arnaldo Cabarlo, Randy Brillantes and certain “Atong” “Jomar” and Florante, all of Dasol, Pangasinan.
The other 41 fishermen, all from Infanta town, sailed safely for home before another typhoon, “Quiel”, hit Pangasinan on October 1.
The “Islander” will initially scout around Scarborough Shoal, west of Zambales in the West Philippine Sea, where the 14 missing fishermen and 41 others sought shelter before “Pedring” blew in.
Meanwhile, another four fishermen who were earlier reported missing in Bolinao town have also been found safe in Barangay Sta Cruz, Bacnotan, La Union.
All the fishermen went out for a fishing expedition in the West Philippine Sea on Sept. 22.
