Children’s security is top agenda in 2nd Congress
CHILDREN’S rights and security will be the focus of the three-day 2nd Dagupan Children’s Congress and Fair on Oct. 3 at the CSI Stadia to be joined by some 18,000 children from the city.
Expected to attend the opening of the Congress, with the theme “Educational Awareness on Modern Technology Threats: Saving the Kids, Strengthening the Families”, are senior government officials led by Secretary Mario Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Secretary Antonio Villar Jr. of the Dangerous Drugs Board, and Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia.
The Congress theme will be discussed during a tri-sectoral seminar, to be moderated by the Department of Education (DepEd), involving parents, teachers and children rights after the opening program.
The affair will be sponsored jointly by the, DOST, DepEd, City Supermarket Inc. and the Sangguniang Panlungsod chaired by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez initiated the Congress for the second year now.
The Congress will also feature fun games, contests, and other activities for children.
These include the Milo Taekwondo Camp, Animal Planet Face Painting, artwork and Story Telling, artwork competition, mini-fun day and games, Scan to go Speedstack, kiddie corner puzzle, glitter painting contest, 3-on-3 basketball, fruit salad making, speed stack tourney, salad and sandwich making, halo-halo making shot out contest, skateboarding and badminton tournament.
Fernandez, chair of CSI, will lead two story-telling sessions.
An added feature will be the celebration of the World Space Week to be held for the first time in Dagupan under the auspices of the DOST.
It will feature a “Rocket Launching” competition, the winner of which will go to Singapore to be sponsored by CSI with the help of the National Aeronautics Space Agency (NASA).
There will also be a robotics exhibit featuring robots from Japan.
