Justice Ferrer named Most Outstanding San Carleñan

SAN CARLOS CITY — City Mayor Jolly Resuello, Engr. Marcelo Casillan Jr., executive chairman; and Patrick Claudio, search committee chairman, will confer plaques of recognition to the city’s Most Outstanding San Carleñans who contributed to the economic and social development and progress of the city.

            And among those to be honored include newly-appointed Commission on Elections Commissioner, Justice Nicodemo Ferrer as one of the Most Outstanding San Carleñans for his countless contributions in law and education.

            Justice Ferrer, 74 and a pure San Carleñan, was born in Bonifacio Street here along with his brother and sister. He was appointed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the COMELEC last June 9, 2006.  Prior to this appointment, he was a Justice of the Sandiganbayan and the first Pangasinense to be appointed to the Sandiganbayan.
 

            He served at the Sandiganbayan’s anti-graft court from February 2000 until his retirement.  He was an Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 37 in Lingayen, Pangasinan from 1990 to 2000.  He was first appointed as RTC-Judge of Baguio-Benguet Branch 8 in La Trinidad, Benguet from February 1983 to November 1990, serving the judiciary for 20 years.

            Justice Ferrer is married to the former Laureta Laguit of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan and their union is blessed with 5 children, all professionals: Leo, Lea, Andrew, Jonathan and Raymund.

            Claudio said that the awarding ceremonies coincide with the city’s 41st foundation anniversary celebration on January 1, 2007 to be held at the Speaker Eugenio Perez Memorial Amphitheater.
