AT THE Bangus Festival next year, bangus won’t be the only star of the celebration.

The city government is planning to promote hog raising in the city and develop a special type of lechon (roasted pig) which will be marketed as a distinct product of Dagupan.

“It has been my plan to boost the economic activity here by introducing Dagupan’s special lechon,” said Mayor Benjamin Lim during the natural swine-raising seminar held last Wednesday hosted by the City Agriculture Office and televised over the TV program Ating Alamin of Gerry Geronimo.

Ang end result na gusto kong mangyari kung bakit ginagawa natin ito is for us to be able to produce a special type of pig for lechon purposes para magkaroon tayo ng tinatawag na Dagupan special lechon,” Lim explained.

There will be competitions to determine the best formula for raising hogs that will be particularly used for lechon.

Magkakaroon tayo ng pa-contest para malaman natin kung ano ang i-aadopt natin na formula ng lechon para kapag may nag-order ng lechon sa Dagupan, pare-pareho ang lasa,” he added.

Lim called on Dagupeños to engage in the hog business and use the latest methods such as Profitable Indigenous Growing System (PIGS); natural (organic); non anti-biotic meat production; kulungan-without-the-bad-smell; least cost, high profit; and dip-litter bed and water pool.

Geronimo was promoting ProNatural Feed Corporation, which advocates natural hog raising, through its product feedpro natural.

No nakabat tan so lechon tayo, anggano makalako tayo na anggad samploran litson ed sakey agew agtayo nakulangan kasi marami tayong ililitson mamaya kung mapapatunayan natin na hindi perhuesyo sa kapitbahay ang pag-bababoy,” said Lim. (With report from CIO)
