LGUs rush ordinances requiring CCTVs
MANAOAG–Shortly after the broad daylight heist on a jewelry store in Dagupan last November 10, Local Government Units (LGUs) in Pangasinan are now scrambling to pass ordinance own ordinances making it mandatory for commercial establishments to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Senior Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario of the Fourth District noted the rush of municipal and city governments to pass their respective ordinances requiring the installation of a CCTV camera as a prerequisite for the issuance of a business permit.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan is also discussing a proposed provincial ordinance, authored by Second District Board Member Von Mark Mendoza and co-authored by Rosario, making CCTVs a must for businesses.
“Although the CCTV is not a full guarantee to prevent the commission of the same, it can at least help in the solution of crimes,” Rosario said.
The SP earlier passed a resolution requiring all schools in Pangasinan, public and private, to install CCTV cameras following the brutal slaying of a second year coed at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) before the opening of classes in June this year.
The footage of a CCTV camera taken during the heist perpetrated by at least seven armed men inside BHF Gemline and Pawnshop on A.B. Fernandez Avenue in Dagupan City from where from P10 to P15 million was carted away is now being reviewed by the Dagupan police.
