TAYUG—The helplessness of the police to stop killings by guns-for-hire syndicates operating in the province was further underscored by another killing with impunity, this time taking out a policeman in uniform no less.

The victim, P01 Ronando Nasol, 27, a native of Barangay Bantog, Sta. Maria town and a member of the 2nd company of the Regional Public Safety Battalion based in Agoo, La Union, was shot to death by armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle.

Nasol was on board his own motorcycle while cruising the highway in Barangay Barangobong from the Tayug town proper when he was accosted by the armed men in another motorcycle in broad daylight, at around 1:30 p.m.

Nasol was on his way home to Sta. Maria after having his bullets refilled in a shop in downtown Tayug.

As in past killings, the armed men, on motorcycles without plate numbers, could not be identified since their faces were hidden by crash helmets.

The perpetrators shot Nasol in the back with the bullet hitting his heart. He died on the spot.

Robbery could not have been the motive of the killing as the policeman’s sidearm and wallet were intact.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspects speeding back towards the town proper of Tayug after the killing.

Chief Inspector Fidel Junio, chief of police of Tayug, admitted they are still facing a blank wall in their investigation of the case.

The mother of the victim said she could not think of any possible motive of the killers in slaying her son who is still single and just a new policeman.
