LOCAL government employees of the 44 towns and four cities of the province will showcase Pangasinan culture and traditions in a stage show competition that will start next month.

The competition, launched last Monday in observance of the Tourism Month, is named “Danggoan na Pangasinan“, meaning Pangasinan theatre.

Sponsored by the provincial government, it will be the first cultural and arts festival in Pangasinan.

Danggoan na Pangasinan seeks to revive and promote Pangasinan culture and traditions, which are now largely forgotten, especially by the youth.

“I-recapture at i-rediscover natin ang mga kaugalian ng mga Pangasinense na nakakalimutan na,” said Marife Panlilio-Acerit, officer-in-charge of the special events office, during the Pantongtongan Tayo radio program over DZMQ Radyo ng Bayan on Tuesday.

Among the events in the competition are zarzuela, choral competition, and talk dance competition

Registration will end on September 30 and the elimination round will start on October 24.

The towns will be grouped into three clusters for which the provincial government will allot two days each to conduct the elimination.

Cluster 1 is composed of Agno, Alaminos City, Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini, Sual, Labrador and Mangatarem.

Cluster 2 includes Aguilar, Bugallon, Lingayen, Binmaley, Sta. Barbara, Dagupan City, Manaoag, San Fabian, Binalonan, Laoac and Sison

Cluster 3 covers Basista, Calasiao, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Mapandan, San Carlos City, Mangaldan, San Jacinto, Bautista, Urbiztondo, and Sto. Tomas.

Aside from the stage contest, a competition on technical skills of the government employees will also be conducted.

Daongan na Pangasinan is part of the ‘I Love Pangasinan’ campaign to preserve and promote the culture of the province and contribute to the development of the tourism industry. (PIA-Pangasinan)
