URL project to help OFW families on investments
LINGAYEN—Families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can soon turn to the provincial government for help on what productive activities they can do using money remitted from abroad.
The Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) last week approved Resolution No. 1528-2012 titled “Authorizing Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) for the Implementation of the Bayanihan for Development: Upscaling Remittances for Development (URL) Project”.
The URL Project “aims to develop policies that would facilitate the leverage of Overseas Filipinos remittances for productive activities leading toward local economic development,” said the resolution’s author, Board Member Angel Baniqued.
The project will assist families of OFWs by providing them informed choices on how they can invest the remittances.
Pangasinan is the first local government unit chosen by CFO, to implement the project.
