NATIVIDAD—Those who want to enjoy the thrill of a zipline ride can trek to Natividad town, a small agricultural town on the eastern side of Pangasinan, sitting at the foot of the Caraballo Mountains.

The 120-meter Sky Plaza Zipline, a P50 ride, is the latest attraction at the Pila Resort in barangay Bachelor East, about four kilometers from the town center.

The zipline is inside the 2.2 hectare Natividad Forest Park which was established in September 2003 under a memorandum of agreement between the municipal government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Mayor Rodrigo Rafael, on his first term in office, initiated the zipline activity last year to boost the promotion of Natividad as an “eco-tourism and adventure” destination for tourists.

Other planned infrastructure include the widening of the trail going to the zipline take-off area into an 8-meter road to facilitate access, a two-story Sky Plaza information building, a chapel, and a bigger network of ziplines.

Winston Julio, secretary to the mayor, said the municipal government is optimistic that as the area becomes more popular, private sector investment will pour in to provide the other facilities that will cater to visitors.

There is an existing plant nursery, water tank and a grotto with a big white cross at the highest peak, which were all built eight years ago.

The other attractions in Natividad are a waterfall located just a kilometer away from the forest park, and boat rides in barangay Rizal.

Rafael said Natividad may not be able to compete with its neighboring towns in urban development but it wants to make its mark as an eco-adventure tourism site. (DOS/PIA Pangasinan)
