Domalandan Bridge ready for Jan. 6 inauguration
LINGAYEN- It’s definite. After six years of incessant “stop-and-go” type of construction, the 600-meter long P720 million Domalandan Bridge that links this capital town to the towns in western Pangasinan is now ready for inauguration on January 6, 2007.
Rodolfo Dion, district engineer of Second Pangasinan Engineering District based here made the assurance, after its contractor beat its deadline for completion.
He said the bridge will be opened for traffic during the town fiesta celebration on Jan. 6 when the bridge will be inaugurated by President Gloria Arroyo. Others expected to witness the opening are House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr, Public Works Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr, Rep. Amado Espino Jr, Governor Victor Agbayani, Mayor Ernesto CastaƱeda Jr, among others.
CastaƱeda thanked Mrs. Arroyo for fulfilling her promise when she came here during last year’s fiesta celebration. He also thanked de Venecia for ensuring that funds were allocated yearly for its completion.
“This is a very meaningful Christmas gift of the President to the people of Lingayen and to all Pangasinenses who pass that bridge,” Espino said. He recalled the pathetic situation of the people after three spans of the bridge collapsed due to strong typhoon in 1999.
Public Works Ilocos regional director Fidel Ginez said the delivered project funding of the bridge was still short but Ciriaco Construction managed to complete the project in time for the Jan. 6, 2007 opening.
Rebuilding of the bridge, considered one of the longest in Northern Luzon, started in 2001. -EVA
