LINGAYEN—The killing of former NBI official, the latest victim of spate of killings, in Pangasinan has alarmed members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).

The council has invited Police Provincial Director Rosueto Ricaforte to appear before them during the Question Hour on Aug. 22 to explain what the police is doing about the situation.

Shot dead in his office in Aguilar town was lawyer and former National Bureau of Investigation regional director Atty. Leonardo Jimenez.

Jimenez, 74, was gunned down by a lone assassin from outside the door of his law office in Poblacion Aguilar at 11:35 a.m. of August 15.

Jimenez was reading a newspaper in front of his table when the gunman shot him in the chest with a Cal. 45 pistol. After the shooting, the gunman casually walked onto a waiting motorcycle driven by another that sped towards Mangatarem.

Sixth District Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. said he is personally alarmed about the recent killings, with barangay officials and businessmen among some of the victims.

Among these were perpetrated in San Carlos City, Bayambang, and Tayug town by armed men riding in tandem on motorcycles.

Bince said he would also like to ask Ricaforte why some jai-alai off-fronton betting stations have re-opened in some towns after it was stopped through an order from the Department of Justice and the Department of Interior and Local Government.
