GMA to open PRISAA meet
LINGAYEN–After the “Pacman-Paquiao” fever, it will be the “PRISAA fever” that will enthuse Pangasinenses and private schools in the country in the week ahead.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will keynote the opening of 2006 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) national games to be held in Dagupan City and various other venues in the province of Pangasinan from February 6 to 12.
According to Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque, national PRISAA president and of host PRISAA Region 1, the opening ceremonies will be held at the
Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Centers, main venue of the games starting at 10:00 a.m.
Dr. Duque, also president of the Lyceum-Northwestern University, said some 4,000 athletes from all over the country will see action in the week-long games, to be held also in Dagupan City, Binmaley, Alaminos and Rosales.
Hosted by PRISAA Region 1 also headed by Duque, the games will feature athletics for men and women, baseball for men, basketball for men and women, lawn tennis for men and women, sepak takraw for men, volleyball for men and women;
Chess, table tennis, badminton for men and women. softball for women, swimming for men and women and taekwondo for men and women.
While most of the games will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen, venue of the 1995 Palarong Pambansa, the swimming competitions will be held at Dagupan City’s Olympic-size swimming pool.
Taekwondo will be held at Atrium of the CSI the City Mall in barangay Lucao, Dagupan City while lawn tennis competition will be held at the Binmaley town auditorium.
Elimination rounds for basketball will be held at the city plaza of Alaminos and at the municipal gym of Rosales while the finals will be held at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome.
A featured activity during the opening week is the ôKalutan ed Dagupanö (bangus grill) around the city plaza of Dagupan to be hosted by the Dagupan City government.
To sing during this activity is concert king Gary Valenciano and Mocha, a fast-rising heart-throb singer in Metro Manila, who is daughter of the late Judge Oscar ‘Gary’ Uson, and Dr. Ester Uson.
The appearance of the two will be sponsored by Dr. Jaime Dy, director of the Chinese General Hospital in Manila.
Pictorial session for the Mutya ng PRISAA is scheduled at the Hundred Islands off Alaminos City, top tourist destination in the province of Pangasinan.
Dr. Duque said among the sponsors to the National PRISAA Games are House Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr., the provincial government of Pangasinan led by Gov. Victor Agbayani and Vice Gov. Oscar Lambino, Reps. Mark Cojuangco, Conrado Estrella, Generoso Tulagan, Amado Espino, Jr., and Arthur Celeste; Mayors Benjamin Lim of Dagupan City, Hernani Braganza of Alaminos, Simplicio Rosario of Binmaley, Ernesto Castaneda of Lingayen and others.
