Espino lauds blood donors for “heroic volunteerism”
GOVERNOR Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended all blood donors of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)-Pangasinan Chapter for their “heroic acts of volunteerism” in giving part of themselves.
Speaking during the Joint Blood Donors’ Awarding Ceremonies and Million Volunteers Run launching held July 29 at the CSI Stadia in Dagupan City, Espino lauded the blood donors for their “concern in saving lives”.
“We do this voluntarily with a great sense of fulfillment, and in the comforting thought that at the most crucial moment, we would be instrumental in saving the life of a fellow human being,” he said.
The awarding and launching rites were part of the observance of National Blood Donor’s Month last July with the theme, “More Blood, More Life”.
The governor thanked all blood donors, especially the 46 regular donors who were cited by the PNRC-Pangasinan as the latest addition to their Chapter Galloners Club for “continuously and unselfishly” donating their blood for the past two consecutive years.
Among the 46 new Galloners members are Dagupan City Councilors Maybelyn Fernandez and Alvin Coquia, philanthropist Ashok Vasandani, and Fr. Winston Estrada.
The club members, according to PNRC Chapter Administrator Florame Magalong, already donated blood at least ten times.
The PNRC-Pangasinan recently called for more donors as it announced an alarming shortage of blood supply in its bank, which has not been enough to meet the demand within the province of at least 119 units per day as well as those in neighboring areas.
In response to this, the provincial government and the Liga ng mga Barangay has become one of the active partners of the PRC in all its blood programs in Pangasinan through the “One Blood, One Barangay, One Pangasinan” project launched in 2009
Espino also hailed the effort of the PRC for being an active partner of the government as he cited the organization for being one of the forefronts of relief and rescue operations in the province for the longest time.
Meanwhile, the PNRC’s Million Volunteers’ Run is slated to be held on December 4 to serve as the culminating activity of the 2011 International Year of Volunteers. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
