Espino salutes outstanding soldier from Pangasinan

LINGAYEN—Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. congratulated Col. Alexis Tamondong, currently assigned as Deputy Brigade Commander at the 54th Engineering Brigade of the Philippine Army in Camp Tito Abat, Manaoag town, for bagging the prestigious 2011 Metrobank Foundation Search for The Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (TOPS) under the National Development Award (Corps of Engineers) category.

TOPS, an annual search launched by the Metrobank Foundation Inc., pays tribute to outstanding members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who have shown good examples of gallantry, competence, professionalism, and integrity.

A decorated and accomplished officer himself, Espino commended Col. Tamondong and other gallant soldiers for serving the country and the Filipino people wholeheartedly.

He also encouraged all men in uniform to continuously bring glory to the institution and become a potent force in achieving change in society.

By winning the search, Tamondong, who will join the elite roster of outstanding soldiers of the country, will be honored by Metrobank Foundation and the Rotary Club of Makati Metro with President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” C. Aquino III conferring the awards in Malacanang tentatively set on the fourth week of August.

Tamondong, who has been serving the institution for 28 years, is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering at the De La Salle Araneta University in Malabon and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the Technological Institute of the Philippines. He has a masteral degree in Public Administration, Business Administration and Social Science from the West Negros College in Bacolod, Philippine Christian University and the Universiti Kebansaan Malaysia, respectively.

All ten winners of the search will each receive a cash prize of P300,000 plus a trophy. (PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
