Inmates get medical and dental treatment
LINGAYEN—Inmates at the Pangasinan Provincial jail here were visited by a medical and dental mission organized by the provincial government last July 22.
The team, composed of doctors and dentists from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Pangasinan Provincial Hospital and the Lingayen District Hospital, conducted the mission in coordination with the General Services Office.
Dr. Donn Doria, head of the medical team, said the 200 inmates were found to be generally in good health though some were diagnosed with common diseases related to respiratory tract infection such as cough and colds, fever, flu, asthma and skin allergy, gastritis or ulcer, and hypertension.
Insp. Porferio de Guzman, officer-in-charge assistant provincial warden, also shared Doria’s observation that the inmates are generally healthy as they do regular exercise routines and are provided with free medicines like vitamins, paracetamol, antibiotics, and analgesics.
In the last mission, which is done on a quarterly basis, sputum examinations for TB patients were undertaken and will be repeated next month in line with the Lung Month observance.
Rene Seguin from San Carlos City, an inmate for four years, thanked Governor Amado Espino Jr. for the program saying, “Napakalaking tulong ito sa amin dahil napapangalagaan ang aming kalusugan at nabibigyan kami ng mga libreng gamot.” (PIO)
