Completion of Dagupan drug rehab center assured-JdV
HOPES are high that the still unfinished Area Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Dagupan may be completed sooner with the visit to the city on July 23 of the protocol officer of President Benigno Aquino III and an official of the Department of Health (DoH).
The visitors were protocol Miguel Perez Rubio, who served in the same capacity under then President Corazon C. Aquino, and Dr. Benjamin Reyes of the DoH who were personally invited to Dagupan by former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and his wife Fourth District Congresswoman Gina de Venecia.
Together with Dr. Roland Mejia, chief of the Region 1 Medical Center, and the De Venecias, Rubio and Reyes visited the four-hectare proposed Area Treatment and Drug Rehab Center in Barangay Bonuan Binloc where an administration building is already standing.
The laboratory and recreation facilities are awaiting construction.
Former Speaker De Venecia told newsmen they are optimistic that the visit will expedite help from the President and Health Secretary Enrique Ona.
The center was started three years ago by then Speaker De Venecia but was stalled after he was removed as Speaker.
His wife Gina, is continuing the project but her own Priority Development Assistance Fund is not enough to complete the center.
Meanwhile, Secretary Antonio Villar Jr, chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), has also allocated another P10 million for the center.
