A UNITED Methodist Church pastor died when his motorcycle collided head-on with a speeding pick-up vehicle at about noon of June 21 along the Jose R. de Venecia Expressway Extension in Dagupan.

The fatality was identified as Pastor Saturnino de los Reyes of Barangay Bolingit, San Carlos City who was driving on the west-bound lane when he collided with a pick-up, heading east, driven by Edsel Garcia, 32, of Dagupan City.

Following the collision, the pick-up with Plate No. NHQ 637 bumped another motorcycle which was on full stop along the roadside ridden by Jennifer Louisse Meneses Sarmiento, 22, of Barangay Canaoalan, Binmaley, who at that time was sending a text message on her phone.

As a result of the impact, Sarmiento was thrown towards an adjacent fishpond and injured on the leg.

De los Reyes and Sarmiento were rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center where De los Reyes was declared dead on arrival. Sarmiento is now recuperating from her injuries.

A case for homicide and frustrated homicide through reckless imprudence are now being readied by the police against Garcia.
