Dual celebration on June 20
AGEW NA DAGUPAN AND RIZAL DAY
COINCIDING with the declared national holiday tomorrow, June 20, in honor of national hero Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday, Dagupan City will also be celebrating its 64th ‘Agew na Dagupan’.
The weeklong Agew na Dagupan festivities, with this year’s theme “Aliguas na Baley, Eebatan na Balang Sinansakey“, kicked off on June 12, also the Philippines’ Independence Day.
Today, the birthdate of Rizal, officials and employees of the city government and the Dagupan City Schools Division will participate in a nationwide fun run.
A thanksgiving mass will be led by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas on June 20.
The Rizal Youth Excellence Award will also be presented on the 20th to the city’s young achievers while more than a hundred student leaders from private and public secondary schools participated in a leadership training last week under the ‘Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran’ (Youth who will serve in the government) project
The student leaders will serve as “city government officials” from June 21-27.
Other Agew na Dagupan activities include the Sukata’y Talisiw, a quiz bee highlighting the history of Dagupan City, several exhibits featuring the city’s heritage and delicacies, and the launching of the Dagupan tourism website (www.dagupantourism.com).
Dagupan was chartered as a city on June 20, 1947 through a bill filed by then Speaker Eugenio Perez.
