Gina pushes for expanded crop insurance

IN her first year in Congress, 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia filed 68 bills, including the one seeking the expansion of the Region 1 Medical Center from 300 to a 600-bed capacity and another on expanded crop insurance.

De Venecia said the bill on R1MC has already been endorsed by the Health Committee as well as the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives.

This, she said, is an indication that the bill is almost certain to be passed into law.

FISHKILL

The bill seeking the expansion of the crop insurance program will cover fish, a major product of the province.

“The massive fishkill that recently happened in western Pangasinan only stressed the needed for fish to be covered by crop insurance,” she said.

Under the proposed bill, which will expand the existing crop insurance law which was authored by De Venecia’s husband, former Speaker Jose de Venecia, fish farmers will be covered in case of such incidents as the fishkill.

Funding for the proposed that the crop insurance will come partly from the earnings of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor).
