Agri books distributed to farmers in Mangatarem
MANGATAREM—More than a hundred farmers from this town received agricultural books and vegetables seeds last week to improve productivity and enhance livelihood.
Given out were the Kaalaman, Kakayahan, Kabuhayan set consisting of books on agriculture, including livestock, poultry and aquaculture.
Second District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil Jr., who led the distribution at the Quetegan Elementary School on Thursday, said the effort to help improve farmers’ methods is in line with the national government’s program on food security.
He also commended the community for implementing the Gulayan sa Paaralan and Gulayan sa Barangay, that promotes backyard gardening.
“Backyard gardening is a viable undertaking for food sufficiency,” he said.
Cultivated at the school’s garden are squash, eggplant, horseradish, malunggay, gourd (patola), and white squash (upo).
Assisting Bataoil in the distribution were Barangay Chairman Ricardo De Guzman, agriculturist Elpidio Flores, Assistant Schools Division Superintendents Teodora Nabor and Sheila Marie Primicias. (PIA-Pangasinan/ARF)
