THE CSI Group of Companies, owner of a chain of shopping malls and supermarkets in Pangasinan and other parts of the Ilocos Region, is set to go ‘green’ with the introduction of its own environment-friendly shopping bag by the end of this month.

Dagupan Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, president and chairman of the board of CSI, said the company collaborated with Unilever on the production of environment-friendly bag project as CSI starts phasing out the use of plastic bags.

The launch of the environment bag coincides with the 25th anniversary celebration of the company which kicked off in mid-May.

Prior to the introduction of the environment bag, the company has been using and giving customers biodegradable bags.

Fernandez clarified why CSI did not pursue the option of introducing paper bags saying “If we go paper bag, mas mahirap kasi, puputol tayo ng punong kahoy”.

RECYCLING

CSI is also collaborating with Unilever on a recycling project for empty sachets of shampoo, toothpaste, coffee and other products for production of hollow blocks and tiles.

This recycling project will involve the Department of Education (DepEd) and the barangays.

CSI is also set to undertake tree-planting activities in collaboration with DepEd.
