Dagupan celebrates 63rd anniversary on June 20

DAGUPAN City will celebrate its 63rd anniversary as a city on June 20.

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Progreso na Bahley, Responsibilidad na Balang Sinansakey.”

Mayor Benjamin Lim will reportedly underscore the importance of keeping the Pangasinan language alive but promoting its use by Pangasinenses.

Invited as guest of honor and speaker for the celebration is Undersecretary Dante Velasco of the Department of Transportation and Communication.

The city obtained its charter in 1947 when President Manuel A. Roxas signed into law Republic Act 170 authored by then Speaker Eugenio Perez.

NATIONAL HOLIDAY

June 20 has been declared a national holiday in relation to the 150th birthday celebration of national hero Jose Rizal.

One highlight of the Dagupan celebration is giving recognition to outstanding youths in the community, dubbed as “Rizal Youth Excellence Award.”

The search will be undertaken on June 10 for Dagupeños aged 15-29 who have won in international and national competition in the last two school years.

Archbishop Socrates Villegas of the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese will lead the “sanengseng”, a choral competition open to all private and public high schools on June 13.

From June 15 to 17, high school students who have displayed good leadership skills will undergo leadership training before they take their oath of office as city officials on June 20 for the “Manlincor ya Kalangweran.”

The “Tagisanya Talisiw” will be held at the city plaza and will be followed by the display of Dagupan delicacies at the Senior Citizen’s Park.

Early dawn of June 19, runners, including teachers and students, will participate in the national fun run for education dubbed as “Every Runner, A Finisher; Every Finisher, A Winner.” (CIO)
