3 phone cable thieves nabbed in Mangaldan
MANGALDAN–Three members of the ‘Spaghetti Gang’, a cable wire theft group in the watch list of the local police, were caught and arrested at dawn of March 24 while cutting aerial cable wires of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) in Barangay Navaluan, near the town cemetery.
Superintendent Mateo Casupang, chief of police here, said suspects Tirso Sabado, 37, and Bernardo Baylon, 29, both of Barangay Anolid; and Edwin Mendoza, 29, of Barangay Banaoang, were involved in several cable theft cases in central Pangasinan.
When the suspects were arrested by a police team led by Chief Inspector Brendon Palisoc, deputy chief of police, they were using a tricycle for mobility and a steel saw in cutting aerial cables.
Seized from them were 20 pieces of 24-gauge cable wires measuring 20 feet and 15 pieces of cut cable wires with estimated value of P170,000.
A follow up investigation led to the confiscation of several more cut PLDT cable wires estimated to be worth P300,000 found in the house of one of the suspects.
The suspects are now facing complaint of theft before the Provincial Prosecutors Office in Dagupan City and ordered to post a P40,000 bail bond each for their provisional liberty.
Casupang said several other cable wire thefts earlier arrested by the Mangaldan police remain in jail for failure to post their respective bail bonds.
The police are now tracing the junkshops where the suspects sold the stolen cable wires..—LM
