GOVERNOR Amado Espino Jr. urged farmers to form groups so they can avail of the provincial government’s livelihood program such as hog and goat raising to supplement their income.

Speaking before irrigators’ associations in Pangasinan during a consultation-dialogue Monday at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center in Lingayen, Espino cited the many women’s groups, mostly organized as cooperatives, have already benefited from the livelihood program.

Sabi nga nila mas magaling mag-alaga ang mga babae pero kaya rin ng mga lalake,” the governor said in jest.

About 1,000 farmers who belong to 60 irrigators associations attended the meeting.

Espino said the livelihood program will make farmers more productive, particularly during the idle period between the planting and harvest seasons.

Magsamasama kayo and you can take advantage of our livelihood program,” he said.

The provincial government has so far extended about P21 million worth of loans with minimal interest to women cooperatives.(DOS/PIA Pangasinan)
