Search launched for Outstanding Filipino Physician
THIS year’s search for The Outstanding Filipino Physicians (TOFP) was launched on Wednesday last week in Manila
PUNCH columnist Gonzalo Duque, currently TOFP national chairman and a Jaycee Senator, joined JCI Senator Philippines President Nelson Tan in the launching.
The search, an annual project of the Department of Health and the JCI Senate Philippines, Inc., aims to give due recognition and honor to the country’s outstanding and dedicated doctors.
Duque said this year’s search, aside from outstanding doctors in major urban centers, will zero in on doctors serving in the rural and remote communities.
Tan said that the TOFP award is one way of encouraging doctors to remain in the country and serve their fellow Filipinos amidst the lucrative possibilities to work in other countries.
“Many of our medical practitioners leave for abroad to earn better income but there is much greater joy and fulfillment in doing good deeds than just earning bigger salaries,” Duque said.
Other members of the 2011 TOFP Executive Committee are: JCI. Senators Robert Kwan, Ramon “Dondon” Bagatsing, Cesar Ochoa, Emmanuel Bamba, Ramon Nanadiego and TOFP 2008 Chairman Melandrew Velasco.
The TOFP, in the last four years, has earned a special niche in the JCI history, joining the league of prestigious Jaycee annual searches and awards like The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) and The Outstanding Filipinos (TOFIL).—LM
