LINGAYEN–Pangasinan is bidding to host next year’s Palarong Pambansa, the country’s biggest sporting event with participating athletes from all over the country.

Five officials of the provincial government, namely: Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan and Provincial Board Members Jeremy Rosario, Angel Baniqued. Ranjit Ramos Shahani and Danilo Uy, were recently in Dapitan City, this year’s host, to signify Pangasinan’s readiness to host the 2012 games.

Pangasinan is competing with several other provinces from Luzon for the hosting of the games.

The Department of Education, which oversees the Palarong Pambansa, will decide on the next host at the end of the Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City.

The only time Pangasinan hosted the Palarong Pambansa was in 1995 when one of the province’s most prominent sons, Fidel Ramos, was president of the Philippines.

If Pangasinan succeeds in its bid to host next year’s event, the games will be held anew at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSC) here in Lingayen, the capital town.

The NRSC was renovated under the administration of Governor Amado Espino Jr. to position Pangasinan as a major sports center in the country.—LM
