Watch out for dengue, chicken pox this summer
DESPITE the onslaught of the summer heat, dengue, a disease carried by mosquitoes, continues to rage in the province.
Dr. Michael Canto, director for external affairs of the Region 1 Medical Center, said the hospital admitted 37 persons suffering from dengue since the start of April, one of whom, a native of Bani, had died.
There were 53 cases in March with also one death from Pozorrubio.
Canto said this means that the dengue virus thrives in any type of weather, thus the need to be health-conscious all-year round.
Dagupan City continues to register the biggest number of dengue cases being a thickly populated area.
Most of the cases in Dagupan were noted in Barangays Bonuan Gueset and Pantal.
“It is probably because the R1MC is located in Dagupan City and it is here where the dengue cases are usually referred,” Canto added.
Canto urged barangays with many cases to seek out breeding places of mosquitoes and remove these promptly.
He called on the populace to continue to practice the “four o’clock habit” of cleaning their surroundings everyday at that time.
At the same time, Canto warned Pangasinaneses against the surge of chicken pox this summer, a virus that could be transferred through contact with an infected person.
He cautioned people against the “beso-beso” greeting for now and shaking hands.—LM
