Dagupan’s river cruises eye more tourists
VISITORS to Dagupan can now enjoy a tour along the city’s river with the launching of the river cruise project initiated by the city government.
The new tourist come-on was launched as part of the ongoing annual Bangus Festival.
Mayor Benjamin Lim said the cruise will showcase city’s inner rivers of Dawel and Watak, with its green and serene view as well as some of the city’s economic and historical points.
Department of Tourism Region I Director Martin Valera said the project would be “a very profitable enterprise for the city”.
“This is another good marketing strategy to promote Dagupan City like the Bangus Festival,” Valera said.
“Part of the cruise tour itinerary includes a tour at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR); the Bangus Processing Plant; the Tondaligan Park where the MacArthur Shrine will be relocated, visit to the West Central Elementary School’s Home and Economics Building where MacArthur established his headquarters during the liberation of the Philippines, and the old Church where Leonor Rivera (Dr. Jose Rizal’s love interest) and Eng’r. Henry Kipping received their vows of marriage,” Lim said.
Another planned stopover is a bangus-feeding experience for tourists in one of the fishponds along the cruise route.
FREE RIDE
Lim also announced during the launch that a free cruise ride will be given for the next two weeks to students, teachers, barangay folks, and city government employees and officers.
The mayor said the project will generate employment and other income opportunities for the communities.
“The boats are made here in our city so makakapagbigay tayo ng trabaho sa mga boat makers. Then we will hire cooks, waiters, and a boatmen who will run the boat,” he announced.
At the same time, the cruise project make us more conscious in making our rivers cleaner this time kasi ito na ngayun ang mina-market natin,” he said. (CIO)
