Gov’t provides summer jobs this year
THE city of Dagupan and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) have granted temporary jobs this summer to 50 students under the government’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
SPES, mandated under Republic Act No. 7323, is intended to give poor but deserving students an opportunity to earn extra income during school breaks to help finance their studies in the following school year.
The city government of Dagupan will pay 60 percent of the salary while DOLE will shoulder the remaining 40 percent, with each student given a P180 per day rate for a 25-work day period.
The other LGUs in Pangasinan that adopted the SPES are Mangaldan, San Fabian, and Bayambang.
In the city, candidates were selected by the City Employment Service Office based on the income of the family.
The students, mostly 2nd year and 3rd year college students and residents of the city, were deployed to work at the different offices of the city hall for jobs related to their respective courses.
The city launched the program
The work period started on April 11 and will end on May 17. (PIA-Pangasinan)
