THE third stage of the 2011 Le Tour de Filipinas, to be hosted by the provincial government, is set on April 18 in Lingayen with more than 100 local and foreign cyclists participating in the country’s biggest cycling event.

The participating cyclists will be arriving that day from Iba, Zambales.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., with the province sports coordinator Modesto Operania, met last week with the chief organizer of Le Tour, Gary Cayton, and his staff, to confirm the provincial government’s support to the event.

“I’m very happy that our province especially the capital town of Lingayen was chosen as one of the stage terminals of this prestigious international cycling competition,” said Espino.

“Our province, which is considered as the cradle of Philippine cycling and our province mates who are very enthusiastic in this kind of sport will have a chance again to watch and root for our homegrown professional local boys to battle against some of the best in the world,” he added.

On April 19, the race will start in Lingayen and end in Burnham Park, Baguio City via Binmaley, Dagupan City, San Fabian, Damortis, Rosario La Union and Kennon Road.

The four-stage bikefest starts in Manila on April 16 and to be run in a criterium way at Roxas Boulevard. The second stage will be from Balanga, Bataan to Iba via the scenic coastal towns of northern Zambales and western Pangasinan.–JAG, Jr.
