Major drug den in Dagupan falls, 2 leaders nabbed
RAIDS in four houses in Barangay Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan City were carried out on March 27 by a group of anti-drug authorities, resulting in the arrest of big-time illegal drug ring leaders Salonga Naga alias “Allan” and his wife, Bulawan Radja.
The couple, nabbed in one of the houses, is now facing charges in violation of RA 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
However, alleged drug group members Malik Ampuan, Tebe Radja and Cairoden Linog who were residing in the three other houses were able to elude arrest.
Others who were arrested during the raid for illegal possession of firearms and drugs were identified as Glenn Gutlay, Jerry del Rosario, Rolly Luna, Hasnar Bocua and Connie Quinto.
The raiding team was composed of combined elements from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 1(PDEA RO1), PDEA Special Enforcement Service, Philippine National Police, Dagupan City police, Military Intelligence 1, Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Navy Special Operations Unit.
Naga’s drug ring, known as the Basilan Drug Group, were subjected to a month long surveillance by PDEA agents prior to the raid.
The legal search and seizure led to the confiscation of several shabu sachets, numerous bank deposit slips in various amounts, a digital weighing scale, two cellular phones containing text drug transactions at couple’s residence, a black shirt with a PDEA insignia, five hand guns with ammunition, live M203 ammunition, a CCTV Camera, suspected drug money and several transaction lists.
“This is the one of the most proper and legal searches this office has initiated, the arrest of two of our primary targets makes-up for the small quantity of illegal drugs confiscated,” said PDEA RO1 Director Roberto S. Opena.
Last year, a similar raid in the same area ended in a shootout where one PDEA asset from Manaoag town died.
Last week’s raid also revealed an abandoned house littered with hundreds of drug paraphernalia and suspected as a drug den by users who buy the drugs from the raided houses.
Further investigation on the involvement of the abandoned house, who disappeared at the time of the raid, is ongoing.
Dagupan Mayor Benjamin S. Lim said his administration will continue to pursue the Anti-Drug Watch project which aims to address the longstanding illegal drug problem in the city and called for stronger community participation.
Lim lamented that Naga, who is president of the Muslim groups in the city, did not set a good example in the community.
