DAGUPAN Mayor Benjamin Lim has promised Chief Inspector Jun Melchor Boadilla, newly-designated jail warden and officer-in-charge of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, to fund the construction of additional cells at the over-populated city jail in barangay Bonuan Gueset.

Lim, who visited the jail during last week’s launching of the city’s mushroom production and preservation process seminar for inmates, saw the condition where some 400 prisoners are confined in a facility built for 150.

Boadilla pointed out that on average 35 inmates share a five-by-five meter.

Lim said he will try to source the fund for the additional cells from the national government.

“Pero kung walang manggagaling sa kanila, gagawa tayo ng paraan para maayos ang inyong situasyon dito,” he vowed. (CIO)
