PRISAA regional games reel off Nov. 5

THE 2012 Regional Collegiate Games of the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Region I opens November 5, 4 p.m., with simple ceremonies at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) Gymnasium in Lingayen.

After the official declaration of the opening by Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, PRISAA national and regional president, dance sports exhibition numbers by Metro Dagupan and La Union Divisions, the official regional qualifiers in the PRISAA National Collegiate Games next year, will follow.

Now on its 23rd staging, this year’s games, ending on November 8, will be participated in by six PRISAA Divisions – Metro Dagupan, Laoag City-Ilocos Norte, La Union, Metro San Carlos, Pangasinan I and II, and Ilocos Sur – represented by some 700 athletes, coaches and officials.

There will be 12 individual and team sports and events including athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, karatedo, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and volleyball.

Reigning champion Metro Dagupan PRISAA is represented by 200 athletes and officials from Dagupan City-based PRISAA member-schools, the bulk of which comes from the University of Luzon (UL), followed by the Lyceum-Northwestern University (LNU), Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy (PAMMA), and Colegio de Dagupan (CdD).

The first place winners will represent the region in the 2013 PRISAA National Collegiate Games on February 10-16, also in Lingayen and in Dagupan City.–Philamer C. Celi
