Congressional Spouses visit 4th District projects
MEMBERS of the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. (CSFI) visited the 4th District on Thursday to observe some best practices and projects and to interact with local officials, members of non-government organizations (NGOs) and stakeholders in various industries.
The group visited project sites, accompanied by Charissa Cruz Evangelista, former undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and daughter of 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia.
Among the sites visited were the malungay (moringa) project in San Jacinto supported by De Venecia and her husband, former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., which is now manufacturing malunggay capsules in commercial quantity.
The group also went to the ‘haven’ of women and the adjacent ‘haven’ of children in Bonuan Binloc, which was initiated by the CSFI under the chairmanship of now Rep. De Venecia and now managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Director Peter Mangabat also outlined some of the projects in the district supported by De Venecia, including bayong-making made of buri leaves in San Jacinto.
Mangabat said they are expecting a big demand on this product with the trend towards the use of environment-friendly bags instead of plastic bags.
