3 victims return to expose sex slave ring
THREE girls from Surigao City who escaped from a sex den in Dagupan City in 2008 have returned to expose their former employer for trafficking girls from other provinces in the city for prostitution.
The three, one of whom is a distant relative of brothers Justice Undersecretary Francisco Baraan III and Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan, sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Dagupan to put a stop to the trafficking.
The victims said they were among five girls recruited from Surigao City by one Juliet Eliot who promised them work in a restaurant in Dagupan with a P200 daily wage plus P100 daily food allowance and free lodging.
But when they arrived in Dagupan, they were handed over to Eliot’s reportedly gay son-in-law who then trained them to become prostitutes.
Sensing that they would be made into sex slaves, the three escaped, leaving behind two other girls who were still minors at the time.
Norlo Gallang, special investigator of NBI Dagupan, said the three surfaced as they were being arrested for the crime of theft filed by their employer at Tokonoshima Night Lounge, now “Double 7”, on Arellano Street in Dagupan.
Upon the advice of the Baraans, the three returned to Dagupan to face their cases for the opportunity to expose the prostitution racket in the city. Each was required to file P11,000 bail bond.
The three suspect that the trafficking of girls from Mindanao still continue to this day and asked the NBI to investigate activities of their former employer and recruiter.—LM
