Dagupan’s ‘Tinda’y Labi’ returns
The night market in Dagupan City, phased out two years ago, is making a comeback this month through the “Tinda’y Labi”, an enhanced program designed to perk up business activities at night for a limited period, and at the same time enhance tourism.
To be spiced up with music, songs, dances and other cultural activities to rev up the spirit of shoppers, the night market will be staged every weekend nights from 6 pm to 2 am this November along A.B. Fernandez Avenue from Rizal street westward, ending in front of the city hall.
The “Tinda’y Labi” is a joint project of the Dagupan “Bangus” Jaycees and the Badminton Association of Dagupan (BAD) with Dennis Canto as the overall chairman.
Ricky Castillo, incoming president of the Dagupan “Bangus” Jaycees, said Mayor Benjamin Lim gave his go signal for the project before he left for the United States.
However, Lim cautioned implementors of the project to maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the city and to avoid creating traffic congestion.
Castillo said the organizers will provide street sweepers and will require participating vendors to equip themselves with trash bins as they well be responsible for cleanliness in their respective premises.
The space rental will be P300 per six square meters per night and costs of power consumption for appliances will be charged as well.
Castillo told The PUNCH that the organizer will only provide the space, standard lighting, security and street sweepers at the venue and the exhibitors must provide their own chairs, tables, utensils, and other equipment.
He invited all owners of businesses, restaurants and ambulant vendors in the city and nearby localities to participate in the “Tinda’y Labi”. To date, there are already 50 businesses who have indicated their willingness to join.
Sponsored by Ginebra San Miguel and Music Warehouse, among others, Tinda’y Labi will give way to the “Baratillo sa Dagupan” in December, which will be staged on Jovellanos street as part of the Dagupan City fiesta. –AQL
