Partnership is key to success – Velasco

STA. BARBARA – Much can be done even with little resources made available by government.

This was stressed by retired Police Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco, citing what he is doing in his hometown hoping to make it the model for the whole third district of Pangasinan.

“What we are doing in Sta. Barbara is a model which we expect to be replicated in other places,” he said, pointing out the partnership among all stakeholders enabling the completion of projects faster.

He cited the putting up of some school buildings in the town with little money sourced from friends in the government and the private sector.

The partnership was tested in the construction of one two-room school building for the Banaoang Central Elementary School initially at a cost of only P250,000 which  he sourced  from Senator Franklin Drilon.

The local government unit (LGU), barangay officials, teachers, parents and students also contributed significantly to the undertaking, he said.

He compared the new school building that has its own comfort room in every classroom, and its ceiling painted to another building built there earlier with a local politician’s help at a cost of P450,000.

“We expect parents, teachers and the community association to maintain the school building and make it more beautiful,  and for the LGU to lend a hand in improving  the same,” said Velasco ina talk to newsmen before awarding prizes to winners of last week’s cycling classic dubbed “Victorey Tour de Tercero Distrito”.

“We just wanted to show a sincere kind of service and proven leadership. But one important factor is connection,” Velasco said as he thanked Senator Drilon for contributing his part in putting up a school building in Sta. Barbara.

Noting that there is plenty of water in Sta. Barbara during the rainy season and practically nothing for irrigation when it is summer, Velasco vowed to see National Irrigation Administrator Arturo Lomibao about what can be done to minimize the constant flooding in the town. – LM
